Tom Jackson was born in Saskatchewan, moved to Alberta when he was still young, and later went to Winnipeg. He began singing at an early age, and until his TV appearances, was best known as a singer and entertainer.

Jackson's TV credits include appearances in the TV movies, The Diviners and Medicine River. He received a Genie Award nomination for his role as the Chief of Lynx River in the CBC series North of 60 and another one for his part in the movie Loyalties. His TV appearances include roles on the shows, Street Legal, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Shining Time Station and The Campbells. He was also a guest star on the show Rita & Friends. Jackson's many talents include directing, writing and producing.

Remembering his own experience as a homeless person on the streets of Winnipeg, Jackson formed the Christmas and Winter Relief Association to raise money to help homeless people. He then started a touring show called the Huron Carole, to help raise money across the country. Each year, before Christmas, Jackson takes the show to Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver.

Tom Jackson has received the David Crowchild Award, the C.F. Martin Award (outstanding contributions made by country music performers) and the International Humanitarian Award for his community service.
